Mt. Kanchenjunga Expedition
Mt. Kanchenjunga is 3rd highest peak in the world with the altitude of 8,586 m from sea level. It is located in India-Nepal border in the Himalayas region. Mt. Kanchenjunga is also known with the ”The Five Treasures of Snows“, as it contains five peaks, four of them over 8,450 m.
The five treasures represents the five repositories of God, which are gold, silver, gems, grain, and holy books. Among five peaks, three lies on the border of North Sikkim in India and Taplejung District of Nepal, while the other two are completely in Taplejung District.
Mt. Kanchenjunga was assumed to be the world’s highest peak until 1852, but with the various calculation in 1849, Mt. Everest was given the this crown in 1856. Mt Kanchenjunga was first climbed by Joe Brown and George Band, who were part of a British expedition in 1955.
